For Kansans, reaching Winfield City Lake is a straightforward drive. Winfield is served by U.S. Route 77 and Kansas Highway 15, providing clear routes from various parts of the state. From Wichita, the drive is a manageable distance, making it an ideal destination for a day trip or a weekend camping excursion. The rural roads leading to the lake are typically well-maintained, ensuring a smooth journey for all types of vehicles, including those towing RVs or boats. Once at the lake, the layout allows for easy access to various camping zones, boat docks, and recreational areas. The general location in Cowley County within the scenic Flint Hills region further enhances its appeal, offering picturesque landscapes and a true sense of being "out in the country" while still having the peace of mind that a city office manages the facilities.

Services Offered

Winfield City Lake, through its management by the City Lake Office, provides a range of services aimed at enhancing the camping and recreational experience. These services contribute to the overall quality and safety of the environment.

  • Campsite Rentals: The campground offers various types of campsites, including those with "concrete pads with full hookups" (water, electric, sewer), as well as sites with just "water and electric hookups" or "electric hookups" only. This variety caters to both RVs and tent campers. Primitive camping sites are also available.
  • Utility Hookups: Essential utilities including water, electricity (various amp services), and sewer connections are provided at many sites, offering convenience for modern RVs and campers.
  • Clean Restrooms and Showers: Visitors consistently praise the cleanliness of the facilities, noting that "the bathrooms are clean for lake bathrooms" and showers are available, which is a significant amenity for campers.
  • Boat Dock and Launch Access: The lake offers "easy to use" docks for boating, facilitating access for those looking to enjoy motorboating, kayaking, or other watercraft activities.
  • Area Patrolling and Maintenance: The staff "do a great job of patrolling the area and making sure everyone is taking care of their camp site," contributing to a sense of order and safety. Road maintenance, mowing, and trimming are also conducted.
  • Recreation Permits: Permits are required for vehicles, boats, and camping on City Lake property, obtainable at the Lake Office or Winfield City Hall, with self-pay options available during off-hours. A new automated payment and permit enforcement system using license plates is also in place.
  • Fire Pits: Many sites are equipped with fire pits, allowing campers to enjoy campfires responsibly. Fire rings are also available for a deposit at the Lake Office.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a city-owned and operated campground, Winfield City Lake's pricing structure is typically set to provide affordable access to outdoor recreation rather than offering commercial promotions. However, the fee structure for permits includes options that can provide value for frequent visitors. For example, a "Daily" recreation permit is available, and its cost can be deducted from the price of an "Annual" recreation license if purchased within seven days. This essentially acts as a short-term discount for those who decide to commit to a full year of lake access.

While specific temporary "special offers" like discounts on site fees might not be publicly advertised, it is always recommended for prospective campers to contact the Winfield City Lake Office directly. They can provide the most current information on camping fees, permit requirements, and any potential savings for extended stays or group bookings.

Clean lake with a friendly staff. We really enjoy parking here when we stay local. It’s a nice getaway. The regular Rv’ers are friendly and helpful. The staff is amazing. They do a great job of patrolling the area and making sure everyone is taking care of the their camp site. I feel safe staying out there. The docs are easy to use for boating. The bathrooms are clean for lake bathrooms. We like that a lot of sites have concrete pads with full hookups and a fire pit. We enjoy kayaking the lake as well. There’s a lot of beautiful wildlife. The kids really enjoy fishing. As far as cell service Verizon works the best. We also have T-Mobile and can get service on the north side pretty good and oddly enough right in the middle of the lake and at the damn.

Was unable to get ahold of anyone in their office. I was trying for 2 weeks straight. So yall missed out on a huge camping event. All of our guests would have generated money for your city. I guess you don't need it. I will always steer people away from that lake now. Shame on you.

love taking my dogs out here in the winter. We walk the shore lines all winter. Several zones at a time. We come in the summer to camp early spring and late fall. The rest of the summer, I come early morning to remote areas to let the dogs run and swim!
