For Kansans who cherish the great outdoors, finding a reliable and enjoyable campground is key to making the most of our state's natural beauty. Winfield City Lake, managed by the Winfield City Lake Office, stands as a popular destination for those seeking a refreshing escape, offering a variety of activities centered around its clean waters and welcoming environment. This article provides a comprehensive and factual overview of Winfield City Lake's camping facilities, designed to inform local users about what to expect from their visit.
Winfield City Lake is more than just a body of water; it's a recreational hub that draws in campers, boaters, and anglers from across the region. Known for its pleasant atmosphere and dedicated staff, it provides a valuable resource for families and individuals looking to unwind and engage in outdoor pursuits. While some logistical challenges, such as phone accessibility, have been noted, the overall sentiment from visitors highlights a positive experience centered around the lake's amenities and the efforts of its on-site personnel. Let's delve into the specifics that make this campground a noteworthy option for your next Kansas adventure.
The Winfield City Lake Office, and thus the campground itself, is located at 10348 141st Rd, Winfield, KS 67156, USA. This places the lake approximately 10 miles northeast of the city of Winfield, ensuring a serene, natural setting away from urban noise while still remaining conveniently accessible.
For Kansans, reaching Winfield City Lake is a straightforward drive. Winfield is served by U.S. Route 77 and Kansas Highway 15, providing clear routes from various parts of the state. From Wichita, the drive is a manageable distance, making it an ideal destination for a day trip or a weekend camping excursion. The rural roads leading to the lake are typically well-maintained, ensuring a smooth journey for all types of vehicles, including those towing RVs or boats. Once at the lake, the layout allows for easy access to various camping zones, boat docks, and recreational areas. The general location in Cowley County within the scenic Flint Hills region further enhances its appeal, offering picturesque landscapes and a true sense of being "out in the country" while still having the peace of mind that a city office manages the facilities.
Winfield City Lake, through its management by the City Lake Office, provides a range of services aimed at enhancing the camping and recreational experience. These services contribute to the overall quality and safety of the environment.
Winfield City Lake boasts numerous features and highlights that contribute to its popularity and positive reputation among Kansas outdoor enthusiasts.
As a city-owned and operated campground, Winfield City Lake's pricing structure is typically set to provide affordable access to outdoor recreation rather than offering commercial promotions. However, the fee structure for permits includes options that can provide value for frequent visitors. For example, a "Daily" recreation permit is available, and its cost can be deducted from the price of an "Annual" recreation license if purchased within seven days. This essentially acts as a short-term discount for those who decide to commit to a full year of lake access.
While specific temporary "special offers" like discounts on site fees might not be publicly advertised, it is always recommended for prospective campers to contact the Winfield City Lake Office directly. They can provide the most current information on camping fees, permit requirements, and any potential savings for extended stays or group bookings.
For inquiries, reservations, or to obtain permits for Winfield City Lake, you can contact the Winfield City Lake Office directly using the following details:
It is important to note that one review mentioned difficulty in reaching the office by phone for a period. While this may have been an isolated incident, it's advisable to be persistent or consider alternative contact methods if your initial calls go unanswered. The Winfield City website may also offer additional contact options or online permit purchasing.
For Kansans, Winfield City Lake represents an excellent and highly suitable destination for a wide array of outdoor activities and camping experiences. Its well-maintained facilities, friendly staff, and diverse camping options cater to nearly every type of outdoor enthusiast. Whether you're a local family looking for a clean and safe place to introduce your children to fishing and camping, an RV owner seeking a comfortable spot with full hookups for a weekend getaway, or a boater eager to enjoy the "clean lake" waters, Winfield City Lake delivers.
The accessibility of the lake from various parts of Kansas, particularly from the Wichita metro area, makes it a convenient choice for spontaneous trips or planned longer stays. The presence of friendly regular RVers and diligent patrolling by staff contributes to a welcoming and secure environment, enhancing the overall sense of peace and enjoyment. Despite isolated reports of phone accessibility issues, the overwhelming positive feedback regarding the amenities—like concrete pads, clean bathrooms, easy boat access, and even reliable cell service for certain providers—underscores its value. For those who enjoy the natural beauty of the Flint Hills and seek a well-managed recreational area where they can fish, boat, camp, and relax, Winfield City Lake truly stands out as a prime local gem. It's a place where Kansas families can create lasting memories by the water.

Clean lake with a friendly staff. We really enjoy parking here when we stay local. It’s a nice getaway. The regular Rv’ers are friendly and helpful. The staff is amazing. They do a great job of patrolling the area and making sure everyone is taking care of the their camp site. I feel safe staying out there. The docs are easy to use for boating. The bathrooms are clean for lake bathrooms. We like that a lot of sites have concrete pads with full hookups and a fire pit. We enjoy kayaking the lake as well. There’s a lot of beautiful wildlife. The kids really enjoy fishing. As far as cell service Verizon works the best. We also have T-Mobile and can get service on the north side pretty good and oddly enough right in the middle of the lake and at the damn.
Jun 28, 2021 · KristinaWas unable to get ahold of anyone in their office. I was trying for 2 weeks straight. So yall missed out on a huge camping event. All of our guests would have generated money for your city. I guess you don't need it. I will always steer people away from that lake now. Shame on you.
May 07, 2025 · Sage McGeelove taking my dogs out here in the winter. We walk the shore lines all winter. Several zones at a time. We come in the summer to camp early spring and late fall. The rest of the summer, I come early morning to remote areas to let the dogs run and swim!
