Are you a Pennsylvania resident looking to truly escape the hustle and bustle of city life, yearning for a genuine, rustic experience in the heart of nature without breaking the bank? This isn't your typical commercial campground with manicured lawns and full hookups—this is authentic PA wilderness camping, highly valued by locals for its remote feel, accessibility to pristine waterways, and unbeatable proximity to some of the state’s best outdoor recreation.
Hoffman Campground provides a simple, welcoming basecamp for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a chance to reconnect with the forest and the clear, cool streams of the region. It operates under a philosophy of minimal development, meaning you get the raw, beautiful experience of the Tioga State Forest. The local user reviews frequently highlight the respectful community atmosphere and the sense of security, allowing campers to truly relax and enjoy their adventure. For those who prioritize a quiet, no-frills setting over modern conveniences, Hoffman Campground is an ideal Pennsylvania destination.
The campground is situated near the small community of Morris, PA, with the exact address being
Morris, PA 16938, USA
. This puts it squarely in Tioga County, deep within the expansive and breathtaking Tioga State Forest. The location is famously near the "Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania," the stunning Pine Creek Gorge, making it a prime spot for exploring this iconic natural landmark.Accessibility is one of Hoffman Campground's key advantages for local adventurers. It is strategically positioned along the Pine Creek Rail Trail, a 62-mile-long path built on an abandoned railroad bed, renowned for biking, walking, and horseback riding. This proximity means you can set up camp and immediately access a major recreational corridor. For those interested in water-based activities, the campground offers direct water access to Pine Creek, which is a vital part of the area's appeal. While the site itself is rustic and surrounded by forest roads, it serves as a straightforward starting point for remote camping adventures within the state forest. Visitors should note that access often involves dirt and gravel state forest roads, which can be affected by weather, particularly in winter, so preparedness is advised.
Hoffman Campground’s service model leans heavily into a genuine rustic camping experience. As a state forest camping area, it maintains a deliberate focus on low-density, primitive recreation. Amenities are intentionally limited to preserve the natural environment and remote feel, which is precisely why many Pennsylvania locals prefer it.
Services Offered
It is important for all prospective visitors to note that in line with the state forest’s management, there are no modern amenities such as electric, water, or sewer hook-ups, no dump stations, and the site follows a "carry in, carry out" policy for trash. This reinforces the remote, self-sufficient nature of the camping experience.
The features of Hoffman Campground are intrinsically tied to its location, offering unparalleled access to the best of Northern Pennsylvania’s outdoor recreation.

It truly is the ideal spot for locals to experience the untamed beauty of their own state forests.
This is my go to place for remote camping i've never had to worry leaving my stuff here while i left to go hike or ride my bike or go to the store. Most of the other campers out there have always been respectful and usually will come up and chit chat with ya. Best part of all it's free to camp there. There's water access on the camp site so if you're a fisherman you will catch trout there we did, right at the boat launch on site, great if ur camping by boat as well. Little to no mosquitos except right at sunset and sunrise at the pine trees.
Jun 23, 2019 · Richard TydryszewskiVery nice Campground. Spacious with good restroom facilities in easy access to the creek and bike path.
Jul 10, 2025 · Yuri RosypalGreat campsites along the Pine Creek Rail Trail. Quiet. Picnic bench, fire ring, and vault toilet. Water pump available but you have to treat water. Millers store that is 1/2 mile down the trail has delicious food, ice cream and necessities.
Sep 12, 2022 · M HEGreat camping along the Pine Creek Bike Trail. If you have a vehicle you’ll have to park at either Rattlesnake Rock parking or Blackwell parking and hike/bike about .5 mile to campground. It’s free but you still have to obtain a permit from the Tioga State Forest
Oct 01, 2021 · 9forHimIt is just under a mile from the Blackwell parking area. The only access is from the rail-trail or the creek so any gear will need to be carried in somehow. It is well maintained and what there is, is nice. There are specific little sections that are available by reservation. Each little section has a fire pit and a picnic table. There is a water pump but it is marked "WATER NOT TESTED" so have some kind of filtration with you if you plan to use it. There are 2 pit toilets that are available for use. It is a very nice place
