Lac Vieux Desert Campground is designed for campers who value simplicity and the tranquility of a forested setting. While some parts of the campground, specifically the northern loop, may offer glimpses of neighboring cabins and homes, the southern loop is renowned for providing a slightly more rustic and secluded experience, truly allowing you to feel enveloped by the wilderness. One of the standout amenities, particularly for tent campers, is the presence of actual designated flat tent pads, framed by wood, on many sites. The campground sits on the shores of Lac Vieux Desert, a significant lake known for its excellent fishing opportunities and scenic surroundings.

Accessibility to the campground typically involves navigating forest roads, which are generally well-maintained for public access. While the exact driving instructions from specific points in Land O' Lakes might vary, the campground is clearly marked within the national forest system. Its address implies it is directly within the Land O' Lakes area, ensuring convenient access to the small town for any last-minute supplies or local dining experiences. Land O' Lakes offers basic amenities, and for a wider range of services, including larger retail options or more diverse dining, the town of Eagle River, WI, is usually within a reasonable driving distance.

Promotions or Special Offers

As a campground located within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and likely managed by the U.S. Forest Service (or a concessionaire on their behalf), Lac Vieux Desert Campground does not typically offer traditional "promotions" or "special offers" in the commercial sense (like discounts or loyalty programs). Its operational model is centered on providing public access to natural resources at standardized, affordable rates. However, for Wisconsin residents, there are inherent values and benefits that can be considered ongoing "offers":

  • Affordable National Forest Rates: Campground fees in national forests are generally very reasonable, offering one of the most budget-friendly camping options in Wisconsin. This allows locals to enjoy frequent and extended stays in beautiful natural settings without significant financial strain.
  • Access to Premier Fishing Lake: Lac Vieux Desert is known for good fishing, and staying at the campground provides direct, convenient access to this valuable recreational resource. This is an "offer" in terms of access to high-quality outdoor pursuits included with your stay.
  • Designated Tent Pads: The presence of actual designated flat tent pads, framed by wood, is a unique and valuable "amenity" for tent campers. This thoughtful feature enhances comfort and convenience, which is a significant benefit for no additional charge.
  • Upcoming Electrical Hookups: The future addition of electricity to some sites, while not a discount, is a notable "upgrade offer." It will provide a new level of convenience for those who prefer some power while still enjoying a rustic environment, expanding the campground's appeal without necessarily increasing the base rustic rates for other sites.
  • Access to National Forest Recreation: Camping here provides direct access to the vast recreational opportunities of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, including extensive hiking trails, wildlife viewing, and the general peace of a protected natural area. This broad access to public lands is a continuous benefit for Wisconsin residents.

For the most accurate and up-to-date information on fees, availability, and specific opening/closing dates (which can vary seasonally), Wisconsin residents should consult the official Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest website or Recreation.gov (if sites become reservable in the future, or to check for specific rules). Direct contact with the local Ranger District office covering the Land O' Lakes area would also be beneficial for specific inquiries.

Neighboring cabins and homes are visible from the northern loop of this campground, but the southern loop offers a slightly more rustic experience. Amenities include a hand pump for drinking water and several vault toilets. Electricity will be coming to a portion of sites here in the near future. A nice swimming beach, shelter and picnic area are just a short walk from the campground. This is one of - if not the only - campground in the Chequamegon Nicolet with actual designated flat tent pads framed by wood. Not all but many sites here have them, and it's certainly a nice amenity for tent campers.

Ii like this Campground.sites are wooded and fairly easy to back into. You can buy wood nearby but there's plenty of wood laying on the ground. There is a boat launch but it's not maintained and you can't launch large or heavy boats cause it's to shallow. They're are lauches you can drive to nearby. I had to leave 2 days early and the office in eagle River said no refunds don't pay more than 2 or 3 days at a time. The forest service are useless and out to lunch. All in all I would go back to camp here.

Terrific Northwoods camping. Fishing is best late spring thru 4th of July although other nearby lakes in the area produce well after that. Nice beach for the kiddos.
