Dandridge itself is a town rich in history and charm, located conveniently close to major East Tennessee attractions without being engulfed by high-traffic tourist zones. This proximity means campers at Sherman Oaks are only a short drive from the recreational opportunities of Douglas Lake and the broader mountainous landscapes that define this part of the state. For local Tennessee residents, this location offers a perfect balance: it’s far enough from home to feel like a getaway, yet close enough for a spontaneous weekend trip.
The immediate surroundings are characteristic of East Tennessee's quieter highway service areas, which contributes to the park's focus on practical, essential services. While the roads within the park are noted to be narrow with tight turns, the overall accessibility from the main highway provides a significant benefit. Guests, particularly those with larger equipment, are simply advised to navigate slowly and carefully upon entering and exiting the main route to ensure a smooth transition to their site. The convenience of being located on a major thoroughfare while still offering a retreat-like setting is a major draw for the local Tennessee community.

Conclusion: Why this place is suitable for locals
For a Tennessee resident, Sherman Oaks Campground is uniquely positioned as a highly suitable option for several key reasons that align with local needs and travel patterns. It serves a crucial function as a convenient, practical, and economical stop in the beautiful East Tennessee region.
First and foremost, its location in Dandridge, right off US-25W, makes it an excellent home base. If you're a local from the Knoxville area looking for a close, low-effort weekend escape, or a resident of upper East Tennessee passing through on your way to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the accessibility is unmatched. It provides a quiet refuge without requiring a significant detour from major routes, saving local travelers valuable time and fuel.
Secondly, the park’s essential features cater perfectly to the functional requirements of a local camper. The availability of large shade trees offers a genuine, tangible benefit during the humid summer months—a feature that often determines the comfort of a campsite more than any other high-end amenity. Furthermore, the strong cellular service noted by past visitors ensures that the practical aspects of modern life, such as staying connected with family or managing remote work, are well-supported. For anyone planning an extended stay while purchasing property or working in the area—a common scenario for East Tennessee locals—the sense of an established, clean, and community-focused park offers stability.
While the park is small and features older hookups and tight roads, these details simply define its character as a no-frills, practical establishment. Tennessee locals value honesty and practicality, and this campground delivers on those fronts. It’s not a resort; it’s a functional, well-located place to park your RV, connect your utilities, and enjoy the scenery or handle local business. By knowing the reality—that some sites are 30 Amp and that careful navigation is necessary—prospective guests can arrive prepared and enjoy a hassle-free experience. Sherman Oaks Campground is, ultimately, a solid, dependable East Tennessee option for those who prioritize location, shade, utility, and value over luxury amenities. It is a true local resource.

This is a very small park with gravel and grass sites. There were some deep tire ruts on some sites so it might get pretty muddy during rainy times. The sites are fairly level but some do have a bit of a slope. Roads are narrow and turns can be a bit tight so you really need to pay attention to your route through the park. Hookups were old but ok and some sites are only 30 Amp. It does look like a lot of the sites are full time people but the park is clean and this is not an issue for us. There are also a lot of large shade trees in some of the park. Overall, it was fine as an overnight stay or even for a couple of days just to rest. AT&T service was very good, Verizon was decent. We did not use any of the facilities since we had our own.
May 18, 2022 · Steve WrightStarted off badly showed up at 7pm and my spot. Was given to someone else traveling threw and I had spot reserved for 3 weeks. Was planning on being here for 2 months, well now there trying to tell me I have to pay a year lease. They knew before we came we only needed place for 2-3 months because of buying land. Can't ever get ahold of female that set up this on phone. Keep telling friends of ours who called that they only have one open spot which is a lie from hell, and told them they could pay Monthly but had to pay over the phone immediatly cause other people are on the way. At least 10 open spots right now, nothing is level and electric looks sketchy with water issues all the time maintenance keeps cutting off everyone's water to fix.
Apr 24, 2025 · William S. AtchesonAnother very basic overnight type of property. Nice pool.🏊♀️ Nice shower 🚿 Small laundry 🧺 Mostly residents and storage here. Some really classic RV's and trailers.🫢
Oct 13, 2023 · Michael ScottI really can't say anything about the place. We made a reservation and they didn't bother to tell us the water wasn't on. So we had to find a last minute, more expensive place, farther away from where we needed to be. Not really professional . . . 🤨
Mar 04, 2024 · Complete RandomnessBy far the worse RV Park I have ever stayed in. All the RV’s are ran down and poor maintenance throughout the park. For the monthly rate that they charge you would think the sites would be nice. I do not recommend this place to anyone.
