Trothwood Forest About

For Ohioans yearning for a true escape from the everyday, a place where the sounds of nature replace urban clamor, Trothwood Forest in McArthur, Ohio, offers a genuinely unique camping experience. This family-owned, 43-acre property is nearly all wooded, minimally developed to retain its natural beauty, and designed for those who seek a back-to-basics, "off-grid" adventure without completely disconnecting from the world. If you're looking for seclusion, ample space, and an authentic forest immersion, Trothwood Forest is a rare find in the heart of Ohio.

Unlike many traditional campgrounds where sites are packed closely together, Trothwood Forest prides itself on offering widely spread-out campsites, ensuring a high level of privacy and a truly remote feel. This thoughtful layout minimizes impact on the forest and maximizes your sense of being alone with nature. It’s an ideal setting for relaxation, meditation, and reconnecting with the wild, even while still having the modern convenience of cell service.

The glowing reviews from real customers truly capture the essence of Trothwood Forest. One enthusiastic camper shared, "Off grid camping! WITH CELL SERVICE! Great place! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a backwoods camping trip. Host was very accommodating we came in late went straight to camp. Directions were spot on, land was beautiful. We will definitely be going back and stay longer next time. Rare find indeed. and the host was very..." Another reviewer, highlighting the positive online sentiment, noted, "Never stayed. I'm just trying to up the rating bc I hate false reviews like the latest one. Hipcamp shows a 98% rating with almost 50 reviews, so these reviews don't do this place justice. Pics seem like it's a great place. Also, one review says cell service. Can't beat that. Wishing you all the success! :)" These testimonials emphasize the welcoming host, the beautiful and secluded land, and the unexpected convenience of cell service in an otherwise off-grid setting.

The philosophy behind Trothwood Forest extends beyond just camping; the owners aim to help people relax, destress, and improve their mental and physical health through immersion in nature. With future plans for relaxation retreats and even fruit trees on the property that will one day yield fruit for campers, Trothwood Forest is a evolving haven for tranquility.

Location and Accessibility

Trothwood Forest is conveniently located at 34037 OH-93, McArthur, OH 45651, USA. This address places it barely south of the charming small town of McArthur, which means you're just a 2-3 minute drive away if you need to grab supplies. Critically for many Ohio outdoor enthusiasts, Trothwood Forest is also strategically positioned near the renowned Hocking Hills area.

This location offers the best of both worlds: the profound seclusion of a deeply wooded property, combined with easy access to a small town for necessities and the wealth of attractions in the Hocking Hills region. Nearby popular spots include Ash Cave (about a 20-minute drive) and Old Man's Cave (approximately 26 minutes away). Lake Rupert, a great spot for fishing, is also roughly a 10-minute drive. The gravel driveway has recently been redone for smoother access, although it's advised to maintain your speed slightly for best results. This accessibility makes Trothwood Forest a practical and desirable basecamp for exploring southeastern Ohio's natural wonders.

Services Offered

Trothwood Forest focuses on providing a natural, "off-grid" camping experience, meaning the services are aligned with this philosophy, offering essential comforts without over-development.
