Introduction / Overview
For New Hampshire residents, the northern part of the state, affectionately known as the Great North Woods, represents the pinnacle of mountain and trail country. Nestled high on a hill within this region is the Notch View Inn & Campground in Colebrook, a unique destination that expertly combines the peace of a quiet mountain retreat with unparalleled access to motorized and non-motorized outdoor adventures. This property is particularly well-suited for those who cherish an extended stay—be it a week, a month, or an entire season—and provides a scenic, comfortable basecamp for exploring the vast wilderness of Coos County.
The Notch View Inn & Campground is situated on a 34-acre property, offering a distinct advantage: a breathtaking, 180-degree panoramic vista of the surrounding mountains, including a stunning view of the Presidential Mountain Range. This visual spectacle transforms routine moments, like morning coffee or evening relaxation, into truly memorable experiences. The owners are frequently highlighted in customer reviews for their dedication and friendly, available service, fostering a welcoming community that encourages repeat and seasonal campers.
Importantly, this is primarily an RV resort environment focused on providing full-hookup sites for campers, ensuring a comfortable stay. While the property also features an on-site inn for non-campers, the campground itself is strategically designed to serve the large-scale camper and trail enthusiast, distinguishing it from traditional tent-focused parks. It is a destination that feels remote, yet is perfectly positioned to launch an adventure into New Hampshire’s rugged terrain.
Location and Accessibility
Notch View Inn & Campground is conveniently located at 54 Forbes Hill Rd, Colebrook, NH 03576, USA. Colebrook itself is a northern New Hampshire town known as a gateway to both the Great North Woods and the famed "Ride the Wilds" trail system. The campground is slightly elevated, sitting in a rural area that provides the exceptional views it is named for.
Access to the campground requires a short drive off major routes. From downtown Colebrook, travelers typically take Route 26 East for approximately three miles, then turn onto East Colebrook Rd, which is clearly marked by the property’s signs. For large RVs and rigs, careful attention to the final approach is recommended, as is the practice of heeding the owners’ advice regarding specific GPS systems. Some older GPS units may incorrectly identify the road as L Forbes Road or attempt to guide drivers down non-maintained roads. However, following the clear, well-known routes from Route 26 ensures a smooth arrival.
The strategic location of the campground also grants guests easy access to the numerous rivers and lakes in the area, including the Connecticut River, providing opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and canoeing, alongside proximity to state parks and cultural highlights like Dixville Notch State Park.
Services Offered
Full Hookup RV Sites: The campground features approximately 43 spacious sites, all equipped with electric, water, and sewer connections for complete convenience. Sites are available with 30-amp or 50-amp service.
Mountain-Facing Sites: Utilities are intentionally set up to ensure that campers face the dramatic mountain views, maximizing the scenic experience from the RV’s living area.
Seasonal Camping: The facility welcomes seasonal campers looking to establish a second home in the mountains, offering long-term sites and a quiet, community-focused atmosphere.
On-Site Inn Accommodations: For families or groups traveling with non-campers, there is a small, on-site inn offering comfortable rooms with amenities like comfortable beds, free Wi-Fi, and shared common areas.
Rental Options: The campground occasionally offers a rental camper or a 'Glamping' site—a large, furnished tent on a platform—for those without their own RV, though these options should be confirmed when booking.
Basic Amenities: Each site includes a picnic table and a fire pit, with the property providing free on-site parking for one vehicle per site (additional vehicles may require prior approval and incur a fee).
Laundry Facilities: Available for guest use, adding convenience to longer stays.
Self-Contained Requirement: Guests should note that the campground's communal bathrooms are generally closed, requiring all RV campers to be self-contained and utilize their own onboard facilities.
Features / Highlights
Direct ATV Trail Access: One of the foremost highlights is the private, direct access to New Hampshire's legendary "Ride the Wilds" trail system. This network provides over 1,000 miles of scenic trails, making the campground an ideal home base for ATV/UTV enthusiasts.
Exceptional Mountain Views: The elevated location provides spectacular, sweeping 180-degree views of the Presidential Mountain Range and surrounding valleys, making for unforgettable sunrises and sunsets.
Quiet and Spacious Sites: The RV sites are noted for being large, well-spaced for privacy, and generally very quiet, offering a peaceful atmosphere that appeals to long-term and seasonal guests.
Outdoor Recreation: The property features an outdoor swimming pool, along with two small fishing ponds. Miles of nearby hiking trails cater to all levels of experience, from beginner to expert.
Wildlife Viewing: The Great North Woods is famous for its wildlife, and the campground's proximity to forested areas offers a high likelihood of spotting iconic New Hampshire creatures, most notably the majestic moose.
Friendly Owners and Management: Customer reviews consistently praise the owners for being "fantastic," "a joy," and "always available," creating a welcoming and personal experience.

Oct 11, 2016 · Donna DesrosiersOn Friday August 2, I stayed at the Notch View Inn, my first time at a B & B, and it was an incredible experience. Bill and Donna were wonderful hosts, the accommodations; my room, the Inn in general were first class and the view was 'out of this world. The breakfast of home made quiche, potato's, muffins, fruit and great coffee was the perfect way to start the day and complete my B & B experience. I definitely will be back, most likely this Fall.
