As Pennsylvanians, we cherish the beautiful balance of vibrant city life and peaceful, accessible nature that our state offers. Finding the perfect local escape that caters to all members of the family, from the seasoned RVer to the first-time tent camper, can turn a simple weekend into a cherished memory. Look no further than the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday, an established destination that promises both adventure and relaxation right in the scenic Brandywine Valley.
This campground is far more than just a place to park your rig or pitch a tent; it’s a full-service holiday experience designed to let local residents reconnect with the outdoors without traveling far from home. Strategically nestled in Coatesville, Chester County, it provides a tranquil, wooded setting along the historic Brandywine River, making it an ideal 'home base' for exploring the rich history and attractions of Southeastern Pennsylvania, or simply enjoying the peaceful countryside.
The KOA Holiday designation means visitors can expect a high standard of amenities and a wide array of activities, making it perfect for families, couples, and groups seeking a comfortable and engaging camping experience. Whether you’re looking for a rustic riverside fishing trip or a fun-filled weekend by the pool with the kids, the Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday has carved out a unique space as a premier local destination.
It is important to note that, as a place situated amidst the natural contours of the Brandywine Valley, the roads approaching and within the campground can present a genuine experience of the Pennsylvania landscape. Some visitors have mentioned that the access roads can be narrow, winding, and heavily forested, which means drivers of larger recreational vehicles (known as 'big rigs') should navigate with extra caution. There are specific driving directions recommended by the campground to avoid low clearance areas, such as a one-lane covered bridge with a 10-foot clearance, so consulting these directions before arrival is strongly advised for a smoother journey. Furthermore, the interior roads of the park itself feature steep, gravel, and dirt surfaces. While the staff works diligently to maintain these areas, guests should be aware that traction on these inclines, particularly after heavy rain, requires attentive driving. Those with smaller trailers or standard RVs may find the site easier to manage than the largest class A motorhomes.
Once you’ve settled in, however, the location truly shines. It provides convenient access to some of the most popular attractions in the state, including Longwood Gardens, the historical Brandywine Battlefield, and the charming town of Kennett Square. Even downtown Philadelphia, with its iconic historical sites and cultural hubs, is an accessible day trip, offering a perfect blend of peaceful nature and urban exploration for local residents.
The Philadelphia / West Chester KOA Holiday takes pride in offering diverse and comprehensive services to ensure a stress-free and enjoyable stay for all guests. The array of offerings is designed to cover every aspect of a contemporary camping trip, from comfort amenities to recreational fun.

My wife and I really enjoy the campground. We try to get there a couple of times a year if possible. I writing this review as a heads up to new people regarding a cancellation policy I wasn't aware of. I was planning to spend two night this coming weekend with our family and another family at two adjoinings sites by the river (they are really pretty, great for fishing right from the site). Well, the weather has shifted and there is a lightning storm coming on Saturday night and our family friends decided it best to postpone. So I called to cancel the reservations and I was told I have to forfeit a nearly $80 deposit. Mind you, our reason for cancellation is not because we WANT to cancel but because we aren't comfortable camping during a lightning storm. They told us we could have a site farther from the river (I was also concerned with camping during heavy rain, especially since the incident at Camp Mystic in Texas earlier in the year). So, if you are making plans to stay there be really sure the weather forecast doesn't include the possibility of lightning because if you have to cut your stay short due to dangerous weather you will have to forfeit your deposit. Like I said, it's a beautiful campground to stay. We've done the cabins in the late winter and had a blast. I'm disappointed the service wasn't better when it comes to dangerous weather cancellations.
Sep 05, 2025 · Frank RuppThe staff at this KOA location was courteous and mostly helpful. However, that was overshadowed by the campground location, steep roads, and low water pressure. No matter which direction you come from, the roads are very narrow with sharp curves. Construction in the area caused us to go down a road that was less than standard width with many blind hills; there was no recommended route from the campground. Trees along said roads are not trimmed high enough and our roof bares evidence of that. The roads inside the campground are very steep and are mostly composed of dirt and gravel, requiring regular grading by campground staff. Traction can be an issue on hills and rain causes very large ruts. The roads should really be paved with proper water drainage. I CANNOT recommend this campground for big rigs. You run a high risk of damaging your RV getting to and from the location. The water pressure was low or nonexistent for most of our week-long stay. I was shocked to see no previous reviews mention this; it must be a new issue. Regardless, communication was lacking with no proactive notification to campers when the water was out or being worked on.
Jul 19, 2025 · J HathawayHad a great time. Friendly staff. Great store. Delicious ice cream. Pool was real nice. Clean facilities. Kids caught fish. Nice tent site next to the river. 113. Family enjoyed themselves.
Aug 14, 2025 · Michael PetrylakWow do I love this place!!! This is my second time here and I have had nothing but awesome experiences both times. First time we camped down by the river in a tent, which was gorgeous to wake up next to every morning. You can see horses roaming the field just across the way, and it’s a great place to launch a kayak from as well. The second time we stayed in a 2bd cabin with private deck and it was fantastic! The private deck was soooo nice to have (minus a few bees during the hotter parts of the day). The cabin had the perfect amount of space and wasn’t located too far from the restrooms. The staff here are lovely, the amenities are everything you could need and more, and the overall vibe here is very peaceful and chill. Highly recommend!!! We will be back.
Apr 19, 2025 · Kristi AnnKOA Philadelphia Review: This campground has steep, hilly roads and is definitely not suitable for big rigs. Most of the staff, identifiable by their yellow shirts, appear to live on-site and likely work here in exchange for their seasonal spots. Unfortunately, the enforcement of rules is inconsistent. Seasonal and local campers seem to get away with things like partying, drinking on top of their RVs and allowing children to walk on the roof with no supervision.(See Picture) A woman at the front desk—her name sounded like Arlene or Audrey—was especially rude. Taylor was more helpful, but not entirely honest, so be cautious when dealing with staff. The campsites are very small and packed closely together, offering zero privacy. You can easily hear your neighbors’ conversations. While the bathrooms were clean, they are outdated. The pool was extremely crowded during our stay. Roads throughout the campground are gravel, dark, and mostly unlabeled. There is also no lighting along the paths to the restrooms, which made walking at night feel unsafe. On a positive note, the camp store was well-stocked. However, the campground itself feels isolated—surrounded by mountain roads, with the nearest stores a 20-minute drive away. Overall, we did not feel safe or comfortable during our stay at this KOA.
