Buck Ridge Campground is located in Benton, IL 62812, USA. While the provided information gives the city and zip code, it's important to note that as a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) campground, it is situated along Rend Lake, a prominent recreational area in Southern Illinois. This location places it within Franklin County, a region known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities.
The accessibility of Buck Ridge Campground is generally very good for Illinois residents. Benton itself is a regional hub, well-connected by state highways, making the drive to the campground relatively straightforward from various parts of the state. Its position near Rend Lake means campers have direct or very close access to the lake's extensive recreational offerings, including fishing, boating, and water sports.
However, a crucial piece of information for visitors is the advisory regarding GPS routing: "be advised if your GPS is routing you over the dam the bridge at the spillway has a 10-ton limit." This indicates that while the campground is accessible, larger RVs or vehicles exceeding this weight limit need to be aware of alternative routes to avoid this specific bridge. This detail highlights the importance of checking official park directions or calling ahead, especially for those with heavier recreational vehicles.
Despite this specific bridge warning, the overall accessibility to Buck Ridge Campground, being near a major lake and a regional town like Benton, makes it a convenient choice for a peaceful escape into nature for many Illinois residents.

Unlike private commercial campgrounds, they generally do not offer fluctuating promotional deals or discounts in the traditional sense. However, what might be considered "special offers" or benefits from a user's perspective include:
- Affordable Standard Rates: As noted by a reviewer, the campground offers a "very reasonable price," which is a consistent benefit rather than a temporary promotion. COE campgrounds are often known for their good value.
- America the Beautiful - National Parks & Federal Recreational Lands Pass: Holders of specific passes (e.g., Senior Pass, Access Pass) often receive a 50% discount on standard amenity fees, including camping. This is a federal program, not specific to Buck Ridge, but directly benefits campers there.
- Reservations for Convenience: While not a discount, the ability to make advance reservations, especially during peak seasons, is a significant benefit, ensuring a guaranteed spot. The review noted success without reservations on a Thursday before Memorial Day, but advance booking is generally recommended for popular times.
- Inclusion of Amenities: The "reasonable price" includes access to clean bathhouses, well-maintained sites, and often full hookups, which represents significant value.
To inquire about specific rates, availability, or to apply any applicable federal discounts, prospective campers should visit Recreation.gov or call the campground directly. Customer Reviews
Very clean with wonderful camp hosts and staff. Large tent lot on the water at a very reasonable price the Thurs before Memorial Day and no reservations made for this stop.
Nice COE campground with full hookups and a small handicap accessible latrine in the center of the loop. Most sites are level enough but some have quite a front-to-back slope. The loop was well maintained and with the trees blooming was just beautiful. There is access to the lake at this loop but is is steep to get to. We saw deer and turkeys here also. Not hard to get here but be advised if your GPS is routing you over the dam the bridge at the spillway has a 10 ton limit.
Enjoyed our stay. The park is very well maintained.
